Q: What were your careers before franchising?

Kim: I had a variety of experiences before deciding to go into franchising with Lawn Doctor. I worked in health care, television, customer relations, real estate, market research, child care, and education. I met Dan while working in New York, then moved to Dan’s hometown of Chicago, where I earned my graduate degree in education at Loyola. I taught high school biology at Lane Technical High School in Chicago. I am now a stay at home mom taking care of our three school age children.

Dan: I spent the first 18 years of my career in consulting and the last 4 years managing customer care and operations departments for one of the three large credit bureaus. My experience covers setting up and running the operations for a variety of large national and international businesses. I have always been interested in owning and operating my own business.

Q: How did you learn about the brand?

Dan: I have always managed the care for our own lawn and landscape. I have used a number of lawn care services but have not been pleased with the results and quality of service. Kim and I found Lawn Doctor while searching for providers that offered more eco-friendly options in lawn care. We realized there wasn’t a Lawn Doctor in our area, so we began to look into the franchise opportunity for ourselves.

Q: Why was this brand the right fit for you?

Dan: We believe in the products and services Lawn Doctor offers and the support provided through their franchise model. A Lawn Doctor franchise fit well with our interests to own and operate our own business.

Kim: One of the reasons that we began looking at the Lawn Doctor website was in the search for more natural lawn care options. Our oldest son has had a lot of health care issues and we were concerned about the use of lawn care products in our own lawn. We are pleased that Lawn Doctor is focused on customizing lawn care to protect the environment and health of future generations.

Q: In regard to your previous experience, what skills do you feel will help you with your business?

Kim: Relationships are very important to me. My experience working in customer relations and in education is something I really enjoyed. I’m excited to have the opportunity to build personal relationships with friends and neighbors in our community. We want to listen to what people really want in their lawn care services and treat them the way we would want to be treated.

Dan: I have the skills and experience to lead and manage all functions of the business. I will decide on our marketing strategy and tactics sell our products and services, service customers, manage the technicians, and monitor and manage our financial performance.

Q: How is your business different?

Dan: We are a locally owned and operated business with the backing and resources of a major national brand with over 40 years of experience in the lawn care industry. We will care for our customer’s lawns like we care for ours.

Kim: As Batavia residents since 1995, we are very involved in the community and enjoy volunteering in our church and the local schools. We expect to help our neighbors and friends by providing great service. The quality of the Lawn Doctor brand is what will really set us apart.
