Baskin-Robbins Launches Donation Drive for Veterans Day

Date

Nov 09, 2015

Baskin-Robbins just announced that it will donate 11 cents from each regular or cone scoop of ice cream sold on November 11, Veterans Day, across its U.S. locations. As the biggest ice cream specialty chain in the world, Baskin-Robbins is carrying out this fundraising drive for United Service Organizations to honor troops, veterans and military families across America.

The franchise business's program aims to support USO services and programs that help connect the U.S. military community with home during their time of service. Both the USO and Baskin-Robbins are asking that people take a brief moment on Veterans Day to thank the more than 1 million active duty service members across the globe by texting “THANKYOU” to the number 50555 as part of this campaign.

According to Baskin-Robbins U.S. and Canada President Weldon Spangler, the company’s military connection started seven decades ago. Founders Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins served in the military during World War II. Spangler says that Baskin-Robbins is proud to be able to honor the founders’ legacy with this USO partnership, which is allowing the company to donate money for each ice cream scoop that is sold in U.S. locations and support the programs and services the USO provides.

The USO partnership is not the only way Baskin-Robbins has shown support for military members. Through the franchise business's special incentive program, qualified veterans who received an honorable discharge and are interested in a franchise can receive discounts, including a waiver of the initial 20-year, $25,000 franchise fee for their first location. Veterans can also receive a 0 percent royalty fee for the initial two years and a reduced rate for the following three years.

Baskin-Robbins: A Brief Overview

Baskin-Robbins was founded back in 1945 by Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins, two ice cream enthusiasts. In 2014, Entrepreneur magazine named the company the top ice cream/frozen dessert franchise in America on its annual Franchise 500 list. It is currently the largest ice cream specialty chain in the world and a top franchise opportunity.

The company makes and markets hard scoop ice cream, soft serve, a range of beverages and custom products such as ice cream cakes. Its innovation and branding have allowed Baskin-Robbins to grow and thrive, with more than 7,500 retail locations now operating in close to 50 countries. With its headquarters in Massachusetts, Baskin-Robbins is a part of the Dunkin’ Brands Group.

The Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation (DDBRCF) aims to serve local neighborhoods by helping address basic needs, namely the health and safety of children and hunger. This organization brings a vast network of crew members, franchisees, employees and more together to help serve local communities. Since its launch in 2006, the DDBRCF has granted more than $8 million dollars to various charities.
