Dec 08, 2015

Wayback Burgers is coming to Greenville, marking the franchiser’s sixth location in South Carolina and first unit in the Greenville area. According to the franchiser’s press release, the new 2,750-square-foot location will open this winter on Woodruff Road, but the opening day has not been announced yet. Each month, a milkshake and burger will be highlighted for customers.

About Wayback Burgers Franchise Opportunity:

The Wayback Burgers franchise offers a unique take on the time-honored fast food staple, with one-, two-, three- and nine-patty options for customers. The chain’s menu also includes salads, turkey and veggie burgers, chicken sandwiches and hand-dipped milkshakes. Wayback aims to recreate the bygone American burger stand experience, with many items cooked to order and made with fresh ingredients.

Wayback Burgers started out as Jake’s Hamburgers back in 1991, when the first location opened its doors in Delaware. Non-burger alternatives were added to spice up the menu in 2000. In 2008, the chain introduced the burger and milkshake of the month concept, which features unusual flavors such as the Buffalo Mac and Cheese Burger and the Orange Creamsicle Milkshake. The same year, Wayback Burgers started its “Free Shake Day,” which is now celebrated each year on the first official day of summer.

In 2010, Jake’s Hamburgers became Jake's Wayback Burgers to reflect the brand’s dedication to creating a nostalgic feel and atmosphere for customers. Wayback would continue to innovate in its food niche, introducing the nine-patty, nine-cheese-slice Triple Triple Burger a year later.

2012 saw the creation of the franchise’s popular “Triple Triple Challenge,” which is held each year on September 18, also known as National Cheeseburger Day. During the competition, customers across the country are asked to eat the nine-patty burger in the least amount of time possible. The winner receives a grand prize, with 2015’s champion Molly Schuyler receiving $3,330 after downing the burger in just 40 seconds.

Jake’s Wayback Burgers officially became known simply as Wayback Burgers in 2014. 2015 proved to be a year for expansion as Wayback Burgers opened its first international location in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in February of that year.

Wayback Burgers currently has more 100 locations across 25 states and its international spot in Argentina. The franchiser is planning to open in an additional 32 countries across Northern Africa and the Middle East, with future expansion slated for Mexico, Pakistan, Argentina and Canada.

Interested franchisees are looking at a franchise fee of $35,000, with the total average initial investment coming in at around $300,000 for a standard 1,600-square-foot location. The burger franchise also looks for franchisees with a credit score of a least 680 and $100,000 in liquid capital. A franchisee may partner with someone else to meet the qualifications as long as the partner owners at least 50 percent of the location.
