Internet site and business-centered cable channel CNBC has named the River Street Sweets • Savannah’s Candy Kitchen location in Savannah, Georgia, as one of the "11 Hot Franchises for the Summer."

The candy store was specifically praised for being a product that appealed to people of all ages.Founded in 1973, the River Street Sweets candy shop was started in Savannah and is the oldest sweets store in the city. It's currently owned by co-founder Jennifer Strickland, while her father, Stan Strickland, operates Savannah’s Candy Kitchen, which was established in 1991.

In 2015, the family merged both companies under a sole unified brand and began plans to expand via the franchise business route. According to Jennifer, the candy chain has one store in the City of Pooler, Georgia, and is planning to expand across the state and into Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina.
