Franchise Business Molly Maid's Nonprofit Hits 20 Years

Date

Sep 19, 2016

Residential cleaning company leader Molly Maid has just reached 20 years of supporting domestic violence victims. Back in 1996, company founder David McKinnon setup the Ms. Molly Foundation, a nonprofit working to provide support to local agencies and shelters and increase public awareness of domestic violence.

The cleaning leader is the only franchise business of its type to form a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since it began, the Ms. Molly Foundation has raised close to $2.5 million for local shelters to help the victims in the communities the brand serves.

Every October, the franchisees and franchiser come together for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Ms. Molly Making a Difference Drive. Local offices collect personal care items and funds to donate to community agencies and shelters. Franchisees also donate a portion of each housing cleaning to the cause.

Brand President Meg Roberts said that one in four women experience some form of domestic violence, and the company believes that everyone should feel safe in their own home. According to Roberts, the company hopes to empower local communities through the foundation's work to stop the cycle of violence, and they are also planning to exceed the $2.5 million mark thanks to support from vendors, franchisees, customers, the home office team and the board of directors.
