Whether you’ve been in the business for 10 years or are just starting out, you can benefit from learning new skills and information about your industry. But how do you go about continuing your education as a franchise owner? Here at FranchiseExpo.com, we’ve compiled a list of both formal and informal educational opportunities available to fit your schedule and your budget.

Formal Education

  • Community College - Your local community college likely has a variety of courses in business and administration. Is there an area as a leader where you are struggling or need improvement? Taking a class could bolster your proficiency. If you agonize over accounting, then an introductory class might do the trick. The class you take doesn’t have to be a strictly “business” class, either. You can take a class to help you improve your writing, public speaking, or computer software skills, too.
  • Seminars Hosted by Franchise - Many franchises offer ongoing education for their franchisees. The leadership team may send you updates on a regular basis, or they might even hold events for local franchisees to meet and learn about changes to the brand or new industry trends. One key advantage to owning a franchise rather than starting your own brand is that you have a strong support system in place. Many franchises also offer formal training for new franchisees.

Informal Education

  • Free Webinars - A quick search online will reveal that there are a plethora of resources available for small business owners. Webinars are an increasingly popular method to learn new information or skills on the go since you can access them either from your computer or your mobile device. They don’t require the commitment of sitting through several class sessions, and many of them are offered for free.
  • Networking Events - Never underestimate the power of networking. By meeting with other business owners, you’ll have the opportunity to share strategies and speak about concerns that you have. Chances are, others have gone through similar experiences, and they may be able to share their wisdom with you. Plus, there’s always a chance that you’ll meet some potential new clients, too.

No matter how you choose to go about it, continuing your education as a franchise owner is essential. If you’d like to get started with your own franchise, check out the available opportunities at FranchiseExpo.com.
