Edwin Grempels - President & CEO of HYPOXI

Bio: Edwin Grempels is the president and CEO of HYPOXI® America Franchise Systems, Inc. He became the first U.S. licensee of HYPOXI when he opened his Charlotte studio in 2010 and has been responsible for the development and support of the three other U.S. HYPOXI® studios. Grempels launched a franchise program for HYPOXI® in 2012.

Grempels is also the CFO for leading German manufacturing company Weima America, a position he has held since 2007. Weima America is a majority investor in Hypoxi® America.

Grempels holds a degree in international business administration from the Bavarian Academy of Foreign Trade in Munich, Germany. He has more than 20 years of experience working in finance and mergers and acquisitions in various service-based industries including manufacturing and recycling.

  1. Tell us about the HYPOXI® concept.
  2. HYPOXI® is the most targeted body shaping method worldwide. With over 10 years of experience and hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers in more than 40 countries, we are a successful international brand in the beauty and body shaping industry.

  3. How and when did you become involved with HYPOXI®?
  4. I first saw HYPOXI® in 2009 in a German TV Show. Being from Germany and working for a German company in the US, I found this innovative European business model very intriguing and ideal for the US Market. I immediately decided to open the first Studio in the US in Charlotte, North Carolina.

  5. What was your background prior to joining HYPOXI®?
  6. All my career life I was in finance, either as CFO or Turnaround Manager for international manufacturing companies. I am still CFO of WEIMA America Inc., a German manufacturing company based in Fort Mill, SC. Due to my entrepreneurship with starting the first HYPOXI® studio in the US and setting up 4 more studios within one year, I could convince the owners of WEIMA and HYPOXI® to join forces and launch HYPOXI® America Inc. This is an ideal setup, implementing the new HYPOXI® model in a new market with the technical and administrative support of a successful and well-established company like WEIMA.

  13. What are some of the greatest lessons you’ve learned in growing this franchise?
  14. That building an empire is much more fun and work, than turning existing companies into profitable entities.

  15. Do you have a mentor and is there someone you use for inspiration?
  16. Yes, Mandelynn DeLuca who started in my studio as a HYPOXI® coach a year ago and now became my associate and the Master Trainer for North America. Her knowledge, passion and devotion for HYPOXI® really showed me the importance and value of the services we offer and the potential of this business.

  17. What advice do you have for someone looking to acquire a Franchise?
  18. Study the legal and economic facts as detailed as possible. Then go and look at the business you want to start and feel it. You need passion and devotion to run a business successfully and it has to be something that you want and like to do for years to come.
