7-Eleven Serves Up Its 60,000th Franchise Business
The undisputed global leader in convenience retail has just celebrated the opening of its 60,000th franchise business location.
7-Eleven started out as the Southland Ice Company back in 1927, changing its name to the moniker of today in 1946, when its stores' operating hours changed to 7 am to 11 pm. By 1971, the stores started operating 24 hours a day.
The convenience chain entered Canada by 1969 and Mexico by 1971, expanding into Japan in 1974. Since then, 7-Eleven has opened new locations through Master Franchise and Area License Agreements in 17 countries, including Australia, China, the UAE, Hong Kong, Sweden and the Philippines. Spring of 2017 will mark the brand's entry into its 18th country, when its first location in Vietnam is expected to open. Last year alone, the convenience giant opened 4,000 new locations, which works out to one new store around every 2.5 hours.
Brand CEO and President Joe DePinto says the company's story is inspiring, growing from a small ice house to a well-known brand worldwide. According to DePinto, the chain will continue to grow thanks to its focus on the changing needs of customers and its commitment to the local communities it serves.
Franchises for sale across the country: 7-Eleven has franchises for sale in many US markets, including Kansas, California, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey and Texas. Qualified prospective franchises will have excellent credit and some type of past retail management experience or military service. The initial franchisee fee varies widely, ranging from $50,000 to $750,000 depending on store location and type.
