7-Eleven Franchise Sets 100-Veteran Recruitment Goal
On Veterans Day 2015, 7-Eleven Inc. announced its plan to offer more franchising opportunities to those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and meet the franchiser’s qualifications. The convenience industry giant is aiming to recruit 100 veterans and give $2 million away in discounts by the end of 2016. This initiative is in line with the franchise business' commitment to serve men and women of the U.S. military.
The retail giant started a franchising program for veterans in 2009, and it offers separated or retired veterans who have been honorably discharged within the last five years discounts on franchisee fees. Veterans who qualify and are first-time 7-Eleven franchisees can receive up to 20 percent off of the incoming franchise fee. Depending on the location and store type, this can represent a discount of anywhere from $1,000 to around $35,000.
7-Eleven’s Franchise Systems Vice President, Greg Franks, spoke of the skills, dedication and focus veterans have, which enables them to be very successful in franchise opportunities. He also said the Veterans Day release was the perfect time to announce the franchise’s plan to give back to the men and women who have served across the country.
Franks said that over the last six years, 82 veterans were given $1.5 million in discounts for the 7-Eleven franchise fees. Currently, ten more veterans are in the process of becoming the latest additions to the franchise business' team. 7-Eleven also recently awarded three franchises to three veterans as part of its "Operation: Take Command" contest, with fee waivers exceeding $150 million dollars total. The contest was originally meant to have only one winner, but 7-Eleven felt so strongly about the three winning entries that it awarded franchises in all three cases.
